Recently Relocated to Colorado

(link goes to map location of our house in new window) I recently (April 2008) relocated to Golden, Colorado with my wife Linda. Later in 2008 more of our family joined us in Colorado, including Linda’s mother and our 18 year old son Tyler who graduated from high school in June 2008 (he will be attending college out here).

We’re hoping others in our family will eventually come here too! We love it… We lived in a beautiful little beach town in Southern California, in Orange County named shutterfly.com" href="http://ourpublicphotos.shutterfly.com/action/pictures?a=67b0de21b34142d0847f" target="_blank">Dana Point

20090506-141123_jeff-kempcom Dana Point Harbor (we could walk here from our condo within 15 minutes) (link goes to more pics of Dana Point on shutterfly.com" href="http://ourpublicphotos.shutterfly.com/action/pictures?a=67b0de21b34142d0847f" target="_blank">Shutterfly.com in new window) Dana Point Harbor is about 1 1/2 mile walk from our old house in Dana Point. Are we crazy for moving?!? We do miss the beach!

We both had good jobs, but we didn’t own a house (after 4 1/2 years of marriage). And we really couldn’t see getting in ‘hock’ up to our ears with the high mortgage costs in California (where homes typically cost around $800K for about 2,200 sqft!). (In Colorado they are in the $300K’s for similar square footage.) So we looked around and studied other areas to live that would suit our desire to live a more ‘outdoorsy’ life style, and still be able to work at a decent job within reasonable distance, and to be able to afford a home. We finally settled on the Denver-metro area after over 2 years of study and lots of prayer. Linda really loved her job and didn’t want to leave, so she approached her company, knowing they have an office in a nice area of downtown Denver. It turned out they were looking for someone in the Denver office with EXACTLY her skills and experience! So within a couple of months it all came together, and Linda’s work paid for about 1/2 the cost of the move, which really helped.

Worked Remotely For Panasonic

Panasonic Avionics
(link goes to Panasonic website in new window)

For the first 5 months in Colorado I worked remotely for the company I worked at in California, Panasonic Avionics within the InFlight Entertainment industry as a Product Manager (2 1/2 yrs there altogether). Panasonic agreed to let me work remotely for a several months until I could line something else up that would be more permanent after moving to Colorado. It worked out great working from my new home office for a while.

Currently Freelancing In Denver

In September 2008 I began consulting/freelancing in the Denver area at a leading supply chain consulting company named DemandPoint. My role there was as a combination Product Manager/Marketing Manager.

Since Feb 2009 I have been freelancing in areas of web design, graphics, internet advertising, etc. under the d.b.a. of my newly founded company Mile High Marketing (I have big plans for my new marketing company and associated websites, but I’ll expound on that more at another time). See Professional Background page on this site for more detail and current work status.

Our New House In Golden

Sunrose About Me

We really love our new house in Genesee Village in Golden, just 20 minutes west of downtown Denver, yet it is at 7,500 ft elevation up in the foothills of the Rockies. Typically every day we see several deer in our yard (or elk about once per month). And there are always geese and ducks in the pond that is just below our house. We are about 45 minutes (to an hour) from some major ski areas including Echo Mtn,Eldora,Winter Park, and Loveland, or about ~1 hour to Arapahoe Basin (ABasin), Keystone, and maybe ~3 hours (I think) from Breckenridge, Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek, or Steamboat Springs.

In spite of this, regrettably, we still haven’t made it out skiing or snowboarding as of this writing!! We had planned to over Christmas holiday, but we all got sick :( . So very soon (next ski season) we are due for a day skiing/snowboarding! This is kind of where we are relative to Denver and the major ski resorts: Ski resorts near our house in Genesee (the top arrow points to Echo Mtn, we are about 2/3 of the way between there and Denver if coming from Denver…see bottom arrow)
